How do we change the way we do math?
"Math first and foremost should start with the concrete, for example what they can touch. Then move onto the iconic, a picture of math, what they can see. Then as with all learning, we can later move onto the abstract, the writing of math."
~Lynnea Luebben
This folder helps when students are moving from concrete to iconic and then to abstract.
How your child solves problems, is just as important, if not more than the solution to the problem.
WE get to see how they interact with numbers, how they process reasoning and how they think critically.
Math was one of the very first designs by Maria Montessori, and it makes sense based on her academic life, that this is where she started.
As an educator I find myself, (even though math was a difficult thing for me) has now become,
the thing I always gravitate back to. Math truly is a building block in scientific reasoning, music, theory, critical thinking and how we construct the universe in my mind through shapes and frequencies.
Education does not need to be expensive. ANY math problems you want to focus on can be used in this daily folder.
Having ONE question a day, at the start of the day when math is processed best can be 100x better than 50 repetitive problems. I am also, very supportive of KHAN math and Montessori concrete materials for math, NOTHING, so far that I have found honors the child more, or provides the best online resources. I will put KHAN in my link page.
I suggest highly investing or creating some Montessori hands on materials.
